Where my life is as of May 2021. Like many 2000 birthyear hockey players looking to play ice hockey in college the Covid-19 Pandemic and the NCAA decision to give current players more eligibility has most likely ended my chances of obtaining that goal.  I would still consider any playing opportunities that come my way but my focus in now on my education and the future.  I will be starting college this fall no matter what and I have several options already in place.  I intend to study biochemistry for my bachelor’s degree then pursue a business-related master’s degree.  Currently I am working as an intern at a venture capital company in Newport Beach until I leave for college.

I was born and raised in Newport Beach, California. I attended the Pegasus School through junior high and spent two year at Newport Harbor High School before I left home to attend Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. I chose to go to prep school to pursue my goal of playing college ice hockey, and I decided on Choate because of the outstanding academics.

My dad put me on the ice for the first time when I was 14 mos old and by the time I was 2 years old I was able to skate. I first started playing ice hockey in the Los Angeles Kings “Lil Kings” program when I was 3 years old. I played most of my youth hockey in either the Los Angles Junior Kings or Anaheim Junior Ducks organizations.

Growing up I played in the Newport Harbor Baseball Association, making All Stars and winning a Bronco League Championship. I also played various sports in middle school like volleyball, soccer, and basketball. My PE class at Newport Harbor was Surfing.

I joined Boy Scouts when I was eleven and earned the rank of Eagle Scout before I entered high school. I was a member of Troop 90 in Newport Beach, a troop with 150 scouts, and served as the Troops’s Senior Patrol Leader as I completed my Eagle requirements. I attended the 2013 National Jamboree and Scout Camps on Catalina Island where I became Scuba certified. I concluded my scouting career with over 50 merit badges. I am also a fourth generation Eagle Scout.

I earned Varsity letters in Ice Hockey and Crew at Choate. In Crew I hold the Sophomore record for the fastest ERG time which is also the 6th fastest time in school history. This past spring I played JV Baseball and was the first player to hit a homerun on our field in the past three years. I was a dorm prefect in Tenney Hall my senior year and I was also on the school’s newspaper staff which was recognized by Yale as the most outstanding high school newspaper in 2019. While at Newport Harbor HS I earned an Academic Letter. I am interested in studying Economics in college.

My hobbies include Fishing, Surfing, and just spending time with my friends.

Family:

My mom, Gretchen, is a CPA and partner with the accounting firm of RSM. She also serves on the board of UC Irvine’s Business School and is a past President of The Susan G. Komen Orange County Chapter. My mom is a University of Southern California alumnus.

My dad, Bill, is a retired Police Detective. He is also a photographer and author (www.williamkarlvalentine.com). He graduated from Arizona State University and played club level Ice Hockey in college.

My sister, Alyssa, is a 2019 graduate of UC Davis who just earned her Masters in Genetic Counseling at Northwestern. Prior to playing for UC Davis’s club Ice Hockey team she played for the Anaheim Lady Ducks where she played in seven straight USAH Tier I National Campionships earning two Bronze medals.

Alyssa’s boyfriend, Ramsey, is like a brother to me. They have been dating since high school and Ramsey also graduated from UC Davis in 2019. He attended UC Davis on a football scholarship and was the starting Left Guard on their team last season that won the school’s first conference championship.
